8 Online Tutoring Work From Home Jobs

8 Online Tutoring Work From Home Jobs

Are you looking for an online teaching or tutoring side hustle? Or maybe for a back-up plan, or maybe you want to start your own online teaching business. Well, if any of the above is true, then look no further because in this article I'm going to share with you eight websites where you can find online tutoring jobs that you can do from home so you can start making money online.

Let's get straight into the article, and let me share with you these eight websites where you can make money online as a tutor or a teacher.

1. Vipkid

Essentially, this one is an English teaching online platform where teachers from the US and Canada can teach English to students from China, and don't worry, you do not need to speak Chinese in order to qualify. Actually, the value proposition of VIP kids is that they allow the students to be fully immersed in the English language and culture so you only should be speaking to them in English.

The application process is supposed to be quite straightforward and quick, and you also don't need any investment beforehand. What you also need to know is that you don't need any experience as a teacher. Essentially, you only need to prove that you are able to speak English fluently ideally without an accent and that you are able to follow the lesson plans and the curriculum that VIP kids make available to you. So it's quite easy actually and then it's also quite flexible because once you are accepted and enrolled, you can start booking lessons whenever that is okay for you and whenever you have the time, so if you're doing this as a side hustle then you can manage your schedule quite easily and with a lot of flexibility.

In terms of income, what I was able to figure out based on the information on their web is that you should be able to earn between $15 and $22 an hour for the time that you spent teaching kids English on VIP kids.

2. Cambly

This one is an English teaching platform but not any English teaching platform. This one is really cool because it doesn't only target kids or teenagers because it addresses children between 4 and 15, but it also offers English courses to organizations that want to make sure that their employees have a really good command of English. So if you are an English teacher and you enroll on cambly, you can either work with children or work with corporate employees and teach corporate English. Nonetheless, you do not need to have any prior experience, no experience is required on cambly, and what they say on their website is that you can charge $10.20 per hour, of course, this one is not as high as others, but since they don't require any experience it might be a good place for you to start.

3. Qkids

This one is another English teaching platform that brings together online teachers from all over the world that can teach English to over 800,000 Chinese students that are aged between 4 and 12. This is a great opportunity if you are already a certified English teacher, and if you are based or are eligible to work in the US or Canada. This is pretty much all the criteria that you need to comply with.

The application process is quite straightforward and it's supposed to take about two weeks. Basically, you need to go through two interviews and run a few three or four demo lessons. Also, what I think is really cool about qkids is that you don't need two lesson plans. Basically, they have a fully designed curriculum that you can leverage, they even have these really cute cartoon characters that you can use as your teaching assistants. The learning process and the teaching process is fun and easy and it'll be very enjoyable both for you and for the kids that you will be teaching.

Now, in terms of the income what I do understand from their website is that you can earn between $16 to $20 per hour, of course, your income will depend on the number of sessions that you booked.

4. Magic Hear

It's quite similar to the other ones that we've spoken before, so you're teaching English online to students aged between 4 and 12, you are provided the curriculum, and you can book classes whenever is okay for you, whenever you have the time.

What's important to notice about magic hears is that you need to have some English teaching experience, and you need to have a BA, you also should be located in the US or Canada. Another important aspect to mention magic hears is that they pay according to their website between $15 to $20 per hour. So you would be able to earn slightly more, than with some of the other ones, and also it depends a lot on the number of sessions that you booked.

5. Hawo

This one is an English teaching platform that you can use to teach professionally. As opposed to some of the other ones that we've talked about that are open for anyone even those that have no experience which obviously means that the offering there, and the competition is going to be higher.

If you are already a certified teacher that has experience in the US or Canadian education systems, then maybe you want to look into hawo because this one is only open to these individuals. So you would need to have a bachelor degree, you would need to have experience as I said in the American or the Canadian education system, you need to have a diploma or a certificate that attests that you are an English teacher, and if you comply with this criteria then you will be able to enroll on hawo and conduct class or group lessons with multiple kids.

Again, this one is slightly different because on some of the other platforms it is a one to one interaction. On hawo, it is one-to-many, so you would be tutoring a group of kids, and you would be teaching them English. So another requirement is that you are a native English speaker with a neutral accent.

6. Preply

This one is another online teaching platform for languages, but here, you do not need to be restricted to English. You can teach any language, and another really cool thing about preply is that you do not have to be certified as a teacher. Although, they do say on the website that it is recommended because it will then allow you to book more lessons so you eventually earn more money. But you don't have to be certified, you don't have to actually be a teacher as long as you are fluent in the language that you would like to teach

Also, on preply you are able to teach students based anywhere in the world, and you can also teach corporate languages for companies that are looking to ensure that their employees are fluent in the language that you are teaching. Unlike some of the other platforms that I mentioned earlier, on preply you can enroll without having to have experience or even be based in the US or Canada. You can literally be based anywhere in the world and use preply as your platform to interact with your students.

What they say in terms of the income on the website is that some of their best teachers tend to earn about $550 per week, but of course, this one is eventually up to you because it depends a lot on how many lessons you book and how much time you really want to dedicate to this if it is a full-time thing or only a side hustle.

7. Italki

Italki is a language teaching platform and what's nice about this one is that you can teach any language, it does not have to be English so basically, it's not restricted to English only. Another really nice thing about italki is that it gives you an opportunity to choose from two different types of profiles. One that is a community tutor. And one that is a professional teacher.

The difference between these two is the level of certification that you have. So basically, if you are just somebody who is fluent or native in a language, and if you're not native then maybe you have a C2 level certificate, then you can be a community tutor and teach that language on italki, and you would be able to get enrolled after going through a really really smooth and quite short enrollment process where you basically need to do a short video and go through an interview process and that's it.

You would be able to earn a minimum of $4 per lesson depending on the price that you establish for yourself. Now, if you are already a certified teacher, then you might want to apply for a professional teacher profile. In this case, the application process is going to be a little bit more complex because, of course, they need to validate your experience and your certifications as a teacher, but then, if you are approved and this is supposed to take about 20 days, then you are able to charge more so there's a minimum threshold of $8 per hour that you should charge for your lessons. So italki is a really good opportunity, you can be based anywhere and you can teach any language as long as you choose one of the two profiles.

8. Chegg

On this platform you can teach any subject, it does not have to be English, it doesn't even have to be a language, you can teach anything from biology to math from physics to chemistry anything. You do not need to have a teaching diploma. But you do need to prove very strong knowledge of your subject during the interview process. You can also do this from anywhere in the world, so you do not have to be based out of the US or Canada

Another interesting aspect I think is that you would be working with students across different levels of Ages. So you can work with middle school, with high school, and even with working professionals. So I think that's really really cool and Chegg is such a cool opportunity for you.

Based on what I understand you can make around $20 per hour. So the pay is not bad and if you want to do this as a side hustle Chegg is awesome. Because you can teach anything and I'm sure there is something that you are really good at, a subject that you would be able to teach students as well.
